BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dr. Bonita PortierDr. Bonita Krempel-Portier, D.O., (aka: Dr. Portier) is a 1991 graduate of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and focuses on primary care in Internal medicine. In 1993, Dr. Portier completed a rotating osteopathic internship at Clarion Hospital, located in Clarion, PA for her general practitionership. In 1995 she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center, Baltimore, MD. Since that time, Dr. Portier has practiced Primary Care medicine in the Emmitsburg and Thurmont areas.

Prior to studying medicine, Dr. Portier had three children (Phil, Thea and Laura), was a high school teacher, worked with insurance claims and has a background in social work.

Dr. Portier is married to William L. Portier PhD, (the other Dr. Portier) who holds the Mary Ann Spearan Chair of Theology at the University of Dayton, OH.

In 2005, Dr. Portier was awarded the Grand Prize donation in the Ivory Gift of A Gentle Touch Contest.

Dr. Portier was named the 2006-2007 Maryland Osteopathic Physician of the Year by the Maryland Association of Osteopathic Physicians.
Karen AdelsbergerKaren Adelsberger, BA; President: Karen, board member since 2004, has served as secretary for two years, and president since 2007. She is the loving mother of four adult children and has worked for Frederick County Public Schools in many capacities over the last 35 years. She is currently the technical support specialist at Lewistown Elementary School. Her experience as mother and educator allows her to lead the board with compassion, insight and wisdom.
Mary BirgeMary Kate Birge, SSJ, PhD; Treasurer: Sr. Mary Kate Birge, SSJ is a Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield, MA. She holds a PhD (With Distinction) in Biblical Studies from The Catholic University of America (2001), and is an Associate Professor of Theology at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. She became a board member in Spring of 2009.
Cathy BodinCatherine Bodin, PhD; Secretary: Cathy Bodin is a professor of French and Spanish employed at McDaniel College in Maryland. Currently the editor of Linguistica Atlantica, she works on a variety of medieval and post-medieval topics in French linguistics.
Linda JunkerLinda Kelley Junker, MBA; Bookkeeper: Linda Junker is the Director of Institutional Research at Mount St. Mary’s and has been a part of the EOPCC Board since its inception. Linda has been a major guiding force of the organization. She has a Master’s degree in Business, had served as our treasurer until 2005, and has since served as our volunteer bookkeeper.
Melissa WetzelMelissa Wetzel, CPA; Non-Officer Board Member: Melissa Marie Wetzel was born and raised in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s College of Emmitsburg in 1999 and then continued to become a Certified Public Accountant in 2003. Also in 2003, she purchased a CPA practice in Emmitsburg from Don Butt, Jr., CPA. Melissa employs several local people at her office on 301 West Main Street. She handles individual and small business tax returns, prepare monthly write-ups for businesses, engages in tax consulting for individuals and small businesses, prepares payroll for local businesses, and has a notary license. As a board member of EOPCC for the past 3 years, she is involved in finalizing QuickBooks for the tax return preparation, preparing the Personal Property Return, and volunteering at most events.
Sister Gloria GilmanSister Gloria Gilman, MA, Daughters of Charity; Non-Officer Board Member: Sister Gloria Gilman entered the Daughters of Charity in 1969 at Emmitsburg, Maryland. She graduated from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in 1975 with a BA, then from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1988 with a Masters in Social Work. She spent years in various missions in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Maryland performing many aspects of social work, including administration, social ministry outreach, child care, work with the elderly, work with prisoners, hospital and nursing home social work, direct and indirect service to the poor and webmaster for her province.
